5 Romantic design ideas for Valentine’s Day

The weather might be wintry but you can still add warmth to your home with these straightforwardly romantic tips

We all know the feeling; it’s January & it seems like the post-Christmas blues are here to stay. The decorations have all come down, and the place just doesn’t look as lively without the lights & tinsel.

It’s a feeling we’ve all had, but never fear: while January can seem dull and dreary there’s still a holiday to look forward to throughout the gloom; Valentine’s Day is on February 14th, and to celebrate the occasion Wendyhouse Interiors offers you five of our most romantic interior design ideas to add some spice to your home and brighten up your life in the dead of winter:

1. Luxury fabrics in vibrant colours

To give your furniture and upholstery a sensation of decadent romance, nothing beats bespoke furniture in textiles which are soft and opulent to touch. Luxury silks and cotton velvets are perfect for snuggling up in. When it comes to colour a Valentine’s theme is all about femininity, but rather than primary colours like sweet pink or red try softer pink and burgundy tones to compliment both male and female spaces and blend with most colour palettes to add depth. These colours will add a richer tone to your rooms all year round.

2. The perfect lighting

Romance is all about the mood you’re in, and the best way to achieve it in any room is with the right lighting. Table lights, floor standing lamps, light boxes, candles or even a centrepiece chandelier can help you nail the right mood for your Valentine’s Day evening. We’d recommend lots of different light sources from various points around the room for a nice soft glow effect. In the bedroom, bedside lamps are a must or, if you really want to get creative, ceiling-mounted lampshades suspended over the bedside table on either side of the bed. This will also provide the added benefit of creating more room on your bedside table!

3. Floral arrangements to add a breath of spring

The mid-winter might be bleak, but don’t forget that spring is just around the corner. Breathe the spirit of renewal into your home as well as romantic flavour with a classic red rose arrangement or, for something more alternative, a purple or soft pink ensemble. The greenery will add some Valentine’s charm as a centrepiece to a dinner party or get-together, and a simple metallic or crystalline vase will go with any interior look.

4. Wall art

Whether you’re an art aficionado looking to refresh the pieces you already have hanging or up or simply want to add some long-overdue decor to bare walls, there plenty of love-themed pieces to style your home for the most romantic day of the year. Art featuring lush romantic vistas never fail, or for more modern tastes perhaps a more impressionistic expression of passion like *this piece*. The best part is, you can leave your art up all year round to give your rooms a romantic flavour long after the 14th.

5. Comfy and cosy accessories

For the perfect Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) night in, you can’t beat watching a film snuggled up on the sofa surrounded by fluffy cushions, soft plush throws and snacks laid out on the table (sweet and salty popcorn with hidden chocolates are our favourite). Grab a Prosecco, put your feet up and stick on Netflix all in the comfort of your dream home!
